In 2005, while at Northern Illinois University, I had the opportunity to take a silversmith class. I learned basic techniques that allow for metalwork jewelry, and created my first steelpan inspired ring.   Several weeks of soldering, filing, sanding, hammering and buffing resulted in unique pieces.  Although I loved this creative work and was encouraged to continue on with the silversmith studies, my priority was music and time did not allow for other serious endeavors. In the back of my mind I new I would revisit this art form again.   Fast forward to 2010, with some left over silver from the silversmith class and a new found interest in beaded jewelry, I fell right back into the metalwork jewelry.

Since falling into this wonderful hobby, I have added metal clay, and wire wrapping to my "toolbox". All of the pieces are inspired by the steelpan or items I have found in nature and are individually hand made.  No two pieces are exactly alike.   I enjoy working with aluminum, copper, brass (yellow and antiqued) sterling silver and fine silver.  This is a labor of love, and I look forward to every new idea and challenge that is presented with each new creation.  Click here to learn more about Malika
